Q: IS IT TIME TO START STUDYING YET?
Every year students ask this fundamental question - WHEN should I start STUDYING? And then... HOW should I study? The answer to both of these questions greatly depends on what style of learning best suits you:
- If VISUAL learning is your style: (seeing & reading), consider using flashcards, mind-maps, graphic organisers, colour coding and highlighters when revising a topic;
- If AUDITORY learning is your style (listening & speaking), consider recording your notes in an easy listening format for you on MP3/ smart phone and replay them over and over again;
- If KINAESTHETIC learning is your style (touching & doing), consider using graphic organisers; online/ onscreen tools to assist with organising your learning;
- Try different methods of learning by using the tips outlined above
- Experiment with different learning styles
- If you feel you are not reaching your potential…change study habits
- FOCUS on one task at a time
- Keep study / reading periods to short sessions, i.e. 20 minutes
- Use a highlighter to focus on the key points - transfer these to either flashcards (VISUAL), smart phone (AUDITORY) or other suitable method of recording and assisting your revision.
AS A RESULT:
- You learn how to relate information to what you already know; apply information to different types of exam questions
- 'Over-learn' at the early phase of your study; this…avoids last minute cramming
- Be Motivated & remain Positive, until you find a study method that works for you.
